Hillary Clinton trails just three points behind Donald Trump in a University of Houston deep-red Texas, conducted in the midst of the second debate and increasing evidence that Trump sexually assaulted and harassed women.
Trump comes out ahead among likely Texas voters, 41-38, with Libertarian Gary Johnson at 4 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 1 percent.
A recent Texas poll from Dixie Strategies shows Trump further ahead at +7.
Both recent polls show a decrease in the Republican candidate’s lead since 2012, when Romney won the state by 16 points.
The University of Houston poll was conducted via live telephone interview from Oct. 7-15 among 1,000 likely Texas voters, and has a margin of error of plus or minus three percent.
TPM’s PollTracker Average for the general election in Texas shows Trump leading Clinton, 47.6 to 37.4.
His numbers will go up a point as soon as the tape comes out of him calling some woman “one fine heifer.” Believe me. Sad.

Hispanics make up between 39% and 45% of the state population, depending on the source. Pew Research Center in January 2016 claimed that it’s 39% (based on 2014 data), but other sources estimate that it’s a bit higher.
