Trump Feeling Sting Of Cindy McCain’s Snub: ‘Cindy Can Have Sleepy Joe!’
President Donald Trump on Wednesday angrily tried to dismiss Cindy McCain snubbing him as her party’s candidate after she endorsed his Democratic opponent Joe Biden saying, “Cindy can have Sleepy Joe!”
“I hardly know Cindy McCain,” Trump tweeted in what appeared to be an attempt to lick his wounds following an endorsement of his rival by the wife of late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). Cindy McCain’s backing of Biden could carry weight with voters as the President battles for support in Arizona which has become a battleground state.
The President who is known for outbursts when snubbed said that he was “never a fan” of John McCain.
“Joe Biden was John McCain’s lapdog. So many BAD decisions on Endless Wars & the V.A., which I brought from a horror show to HIGH APPROVAL. Never a fan of John. Cindy can have Sleepy Joe!” Trump said.
Cindy McCain officially endorsed Biden on Tuesday, lauding him as the only candidate in the presidential race who “stands up for our values as a nation.” During the Democratic National Convention in August, Cindy McCain narrated a video recounting a friendship between her late husband and Biden, that crossed party lines.
Cindy McCain’s endorsement Tuesday follows an article published in The Atlantic earlier this month that reported disparaging remarks made by the President in 2018 that referred to fallen service members as “losers” and “suckers.”
Biden announced the endorsement during a virtual fundraiser Tuesday afternoon saying, John McCain’s wife was endorsing him for the “first time ever” following revelations about President Trump’s denigrating comments toward service men and women who — like his son and McCain’s — “are heroes, who served their country.”
Trump denied mocking McCain and fallen soldiers and dismissed the report as “fake news” in a series of tweets. The White House has also sharply denied The Atlantic’s report.
But the reported comments in 2018 were not the first time Trump has gone after the late Arizona lawmaker.
In 2015, Trump ripped at senator saying the only reason McCain who was held captive for more than five years in Vietnam had earned the title of a war hero was because he had been a prisoner of war. Trump said at the time he preferred those who weren’t “captured.”
Cindy McCain was shown the President’s tweet about her Biden endorsement during a Good Morning America interview early Wednesday. When asked for her response to the President’s tweet. She said simply: “I don’t have any.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) hit back at President Donald Trump following his racist attack on her Somali roots at his Pennsylvania campaign rally Tuesday night.
“How about Omar of Minnesota?” Trump said at a rally in Moon Township, Pennsylvania before suggesting that the Minnesota Democrat did not have the right to lead.
“Firstly, this is my country and I am a member of the House that impeached you,” Omar said in a tweet.
“She’s telling us how to run our country,” Trump told supporters, taking aim at Omar. “How did you do where you came from? How’s your country doing? She’s going to tell us — she’s telling us how to run our country.”
Omar, noting that she fled civil war as an 8-year-old replied on Twitter: “An 8-year-old doesn’t run a country even though you run our country like one.”
The comments came after Trump followed a predictable formula of race-baiting to a jeering crowd in the Pittsburgh suburb that he has used many times before.
In 2019, Trump tweeted that Omar was among a group of progressive Democratic congresswomen who needed to “go back” to their “broken and crime infested” countries.
Within a few days of the tweets, a crowd of Trump supporters at a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, jeered “send her back!” in reference to Omar.
During remarks in Minnesota, last week, Trump praised a crowd of largely white attendees for their “good genes” and promoted conspiracy theories about Omar’s family life, saying that she and two other women of color in Congress should be prosecuted.
“We’ll prosecute ’em. Yeah. Why not?” Trump said to cheering supporters in Bemidji, Minnesota.
In a second tweet Tuesday, Omar replied by sharing a meme from the 2004 film “Mean Girls” featuring Rachel McAdams as Regina George — a central character in the teen classic. Captioned above the meme, Omar wrote that the President’s “cult-like rallies” leave her wondering one thing — why the President is so “obsessed” with her?

But perhaps the reason for the President’s repeated targeting of Omar is obvious — to Trump it doesn’t seem to matter that Omar is a U.S. citizen who was naturalized after fleeing war-torn Somalia as a child. Instead he has continued to use Omar as a target to ignite his base using a playbook that thrives on race-baiting, fear-mongering around immigration and culture wars.
