Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, said on Tuesday that she will not seek a role in President-elect Joe Biden’s administration.
She cited concerns about the treatment of her family after reports surfaced that she traveled to join family over Thanksgiving weekend after publicly discouraging Americans from making trips during the recent holiday.
“I will be helpful in any role that people think I can be helpful in and then I will retire,” Birx told Newsy in a clip of an interview posted on Tuesday morning.

Cue up Vitamin C’s “Graduation” song, we did it. 2020 is [finally] coming to a close and it feels like some kind of an accomplishment that we’ve made it this far. It seems every year we talk about how time has that magical effect to both fly by and drag on but this year has somehow managed to feel like March for 300 days straight. I barely remember the month of August and somehow, Christmas is around the corner. Then we’re on to 2021, who knows what that has in store for us. I am tempering my expectations, to say the least. Outgoing Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) rebuked his GOP colleagues for what he called a “mindless sort of obedience” to President Donald Trump, saying the blind following “doesn’t do credit to the individuals” and ultimately undermines democratic institutions.
“Congress was created to be and meant to be a separate independent branch of government – not one in which its members take their direction from a president of either party,” he told The Dallas Morning News in an interview published early Tuesday.
