Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell will deliver the Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union address next week.
The president is scheduled to deliver his address to a joint session of Congress next Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 9 p.m. ET. McDonnell’s response will come right afterward.
McDonnell will be third Virginian in recent memory to deliver the response. Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) and DNC Chair Tim Kaine have also delivered State of the Union responses.
McDonnell defeated Democrat Creigh Deeds in Virginia’s gubernatorial election last fall after Obama had carried the state in the 2008 presidential election.
