President Donald Trump, along with his daughter Ivanka Trump and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin greeted the Saudi crown prince at the G-20 summit on Friday. According to the White House they only “exchanged pleasantries,” and the President said they had “no discussion.”
“We had no discussion. We might, but we had none,” Trump told reporters following the exchange.
Global leaders’ interactions with Mohammad Bin Salman have been watched with intense scrutiny at the G-20 this week following the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Turkey in October. While Trump has thrown his weight behind the crown prince and the kingdom in order to maintain economic deals with the Saudis, he has openly speculated about whether Bin Salman was aware of the violent murder and dismemberment.
