Trump ‘Can’t Imagine Any Reason’ Not To Declare Emergency: ‘I’m Allowed To Do It’

During an interview with Sean Hannity in Texas on Thursday, President Trump reiterated his intentions of using the declaration of a national emergency as a back up plan if negotiations with Congress continue at a stalemate and said he can’t think of a reason not to do it.

“If we don’t make a deal with Congress, most likely I will do that,” he said. “I would actually say I would. I can’t imagine any reason why not, because I’m allowed to do it. The law is 100 percent on my side.”

Conservatives have expressed concern about the use of a national emergency declaration to secure funding for Trump’s prized border wall, with some saying it would set a dangerous precedent for the loophole in the future.

He is obsessed with the concept of what he is “allowed” to do. How many times during the past five years have we heard him talk about how he isn’t “allowed” to do this, that, or the other thing, and he is “allowed” to do something else? The idea of being “allowed” suggests a higher authority that controls a person. (4-year-olds are sometimes allowed to stay up until 8:30, but not “allowed” to eat cookies before dinner.) I’m betting that Mama T was big on what little D was allowed to do. It bugged him then, and it comes out now when he’s feeling sorry for himself or bragging about his power.
Having said that, the contortions that he’s making to suggest that this is a emergency are making court cases for all those cases suggesting that the situation is not, in fact, an emergency.

    Pro- tip fro Trump:

Presidents are allowed to declare an emergency if there is an emergency. Problem is that there is no emergency and no one believes that you believe there is an emergency. So all you are proposing to do is make a power grab for powers that belong to the Congress. That is an impeachable offense.
