CNN’s chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said the chaos that erupted at the border this weekend — after the U.S. lobbed tear gas at migrants who were trying to cross the border — suggests that Trump’s wall “wouldn’t make any difference” if it is ever funded or built.
“The wall is unpopular,” he said on CNN Monday. “I mean, yes, his base likes the wall, but other than that, shutting down the government over this wall, I don’t see why that is something Democrats should fear, because most people don’t want the wall. And as this incident illustrates, the wall wouldn’t make any difference.”
In a tweet early Monday, Trump demanded Congress figure out a way to fund his wall, as lawmakers gear up for a potential shutdown over the issue at the end of the year.
