Pour one out for the (unnamed) Republicans who (apparently, secretly) acknowledge that President-elect Joe Biden won the race, but tragically have no choice but to do nothing as their leader strikes a match and pours lighter fluid all over the principles of American democracy as he refuses to concede.

“They call me to say ‘Congratulations, please convey my well wishes to the President-elect, but I can’t say that publicly yet,'” Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) told CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota Tuesday.

These alleged secret congratulations from self-muzzled Republicans run parallel with a senior GOP official’s eyebrow-raising remark to the Washington Post claiming that the party was merely trying to mollify Trump with its public embrace of his corrupt ploy to steal the election.

“What is the downside for humoring him for this little bit of time? No one seriously thinks the results will change,” said the official, who refused to be identified by name.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and most other Republicans have boosted Trump’s bogus attacks on the legitimate election results, which have largely come in the form of feeble lawsuits in the swing states that voted against him.
