New Jersey EMT Dies Of Heart Attack After Treating Daughter In Car Crash

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) — Officials say a northern New Jersey council member died shortly after helping treat his 19-year-old daughter and another person who had been involved in a car crash.

Eskil “Scott” Danielson, a member of the Andover Borough Council and an emergency services unit, was dispatched to a crash Saturday afternoon along state Route 206 on the border of Byram Township and Andover Borough.

Authorities say the 49-year-old father learned that his daughter Alycia was involved in the crash and helped treat her and the occupant of the other vehicle.

Danielson suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed while waiting at a Newton hospital to check on his daughter. He was airlifted to a Morristown hospital Saturday night where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say Alycia Danielson has been discharged from the hospital.

This is so tragic, how frightened he must have been. His poor family. :pensive:

I hope his daughter doesn’t carry the weight of his death on her shoulders. The daugher being in a wreck may have precipitated the heart attack, but it’s just as likely he was living on borrowed time and that any stressful event would have triggered it. RIP.

  5. It’s a dad thing. I cannot imagine the emotional load of this man during and after the treatment. Did I do enough? Will she be OK? I only hope that his final thought was that he helped his child, because if you are a dad, that’s important.
