One of this year’s most watched Senate races is generating more than attention: between them, GOP primary opponents Gov. Charlie Crist and conservative favorite Marco Rubio reported raising $3.75 million during the last three months of 2009.
Crist led the way with $2 million raised in the last quarter. He currently boasts $7.5 million in cash on hand.
Rubio raised $1.75 million in the last quarter, and has $2 million cash on hand. The majority of the $1.75 million was raised for the GOP primary. In a statement, Rubio said his campaign was on pace to meeting their goals.
“I am as confident as ever that we will have the resources to deliver our message and be successful,” he said.
A new Quinnipiac poll out today shows that Rubio leads Crist 47-44 in the primary. While that essentially pegs the race as a dead heat, it’s Rubio’s first lead in the GOP primary fight against the more moderate governor.
