Rep. Honda: Graham’s ‘Unsavory’ Sake Explanation ‘Does A Disservice To The Underlying Issue’

Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA)

Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA) has responded to Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) defense of his comment that Nancy Pelosi has the Democrats “all liquored up on sake” and “making a suicide run.”

Honda, who is of Japanese descent, says the Senator’s apology “does a disservice to the underlying issue.”

Graham has been under fire for his remarks, and yesterday tried to explain himself on Fox News:

“My comments really reflect the fanaticism of the Democratic leadership,” he said. “And I don’t know whether sake or moonshine, but no sober person would do this.”

Honda, who had already criticized Graham for his racially tinged remarks, was not satisfied with this explanation: “For the Senator to add “moonshiners” to an already unsavory sake and suicide statement, does a disservice to the underlying issue.”

He continued:

Citing that “no sober person would do [health care reform]”, because Americans “do not need to lose their choice in health care”, I question who has, in fact — to use the Senator’s words — “lost their political mind”. This “loss of choice” is exactly what this bill prevents by putting the health care industry in its place and by returning control to the American people.

Honda also said that “if the Senator has problems with us capping premiums or covering preexisting conditions, then I suggest he come clean on his addiction to the habits of the health care industry.”
