To raucous cheers and applause, Oprah Winfrey explained her support for Democratic governor candidate Stacey Abrams in Georgia on Thursday.
“She cares about medicaid expansion,” she said, pacing behind the podium. “She cares about keeping families together. She cares about environmental protection protection for our children so that they will have clean water and won’t be wearing oxygen masks ten years from now.”
She continued, to escalating cheers, ticking off Abrams’ stance on gun control and affordable housing.
Winfrey has joined Jimmy Carter as a high-profile surrogate of Abrams, who is in a breathtakingly close race with Georgia secretary of state and GOP gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp. The race has been riddled with accusations of Kemp trying to suppress votes.

Hell of a speech! Damn someone needs to give that woman a talk show.
“The race has been riddled with accusations of Kemp trying to suppress votes.”
I caught a bit of the speech and really enjoyed it.
The very best part of her speech is when she told the crowd that, if you’re a minority or a woman, not voting disrespects your ancestors. It does. It really, really does.
I loved that. When you look back at what minorities and women were subjected to…and how quickly we have come to taking it for granted…i am gobsmacked.
