President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign is taking great pains to ensure that the 2020 Republican convention is devoid of the rebellion that permeated the 2016 event and revealed the schisms in the party.

According to a Monday Politico report, the campaign is getting state party chairs on its side, and has already devoted an entire wing of the operation to convention prep.

Trump allies fear a repeat of Never Trumper protests, or headline-grabbing speeches like Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) in 2016, when he refused to endorse Trump and instead told voters to “vote your conscience.”

Trump’s campaign aides have reportedly taken to the books, studying past conventions to create one as unified and smooth as possible.
