Democrats, hopping mad about former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz’s possible third-party bid in general, are particularly steamed at Bill Burton, one of President Barack Obama’s earliest campaign staffers and deputy press secretary who is now working for Schultz.
According to a Monday CNN report, Burton defended himself by saying to beat President Donald Trump you need a “creative” and “imaginative” option.
His fellow Obama alumni and other peers aren’t buying it.
From former chief strategist for Obama’s campaigns and senior adviser in the White House:
One thing you can be sure of:
The consultants who sign on with the Howard Schultz campaign may help facilitate the second Trump term.
But they surely will make enough to keep themselves in overpriced coffee drinks for life!https://t.co/bKNJnl9lpr— David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) January 29, 2019
DNC and Hillary Clinton campaign alum:
I did not know Bill Burton was hard up for cash. https://t.co/qwUii9URxC

Deputy assistant secretary at Obama’s HUD:
Maybe it’s just because I don’t worship money like many political operatives, but there is literally no amount you could pay me to join a campaign that would increase the likelihood of Trump’s re-election. This is disappointing to see and I’m eager to hear @BillBurton‘s side. https://t.co/F7vm17CK5G

And a reminder from a biographer of the Obama years:
Here is Bill Burton’s August ’16 op-ed in the Sacramento Bee about how a spoiler candidate could elect Donald Trump https://t.co/TahjRAT5pU https://t.co/A5HY6qRoIE
