Stephen Colbert on Thursday was “shocked” to hear that a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan apparently burned a bunch of donated copies of Bill O’Reilly’s book, “Pinheads and Patriots.”

“I don’t know why they would,” Colbert said. “It is a perfect gift for these warriors. I know reading his books always makes me want to kill somebody.”

The soldier who allegedly burned them said it’s customary for military bases to burn excess “waste” and that there is no good way to send the books back.

But Colbert still wasn’t pleased. “First of all, soldier, there are plenty of ways Papa Bear’s books can be useful on the front lines,” he said. “You can use them as sand bags, or as armor for a Humvee, or, you know you guys always need toilet paper. I’m sure Bill would be honored.”
