FILE - In this April 22, 2009 file photo, 27-year-old Ingmar Guandique, center, accused of killing Washington intern Chandra Levy, is escorted from the Violent Crimes Unit in Washington by detectives Tom Williams, left, and Emilio Martinez. Levy vanished April 30, 2001 after completing a federal internship in Washington, and her remains were found in 2002 in a heavily wooded area of Washington’s Rock Creek Park. Lawyers for Guandique, who was convicted of killing Levy, said in documents unsealed Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 that his prosecution was "predicated on a lie," and they intend to file a motion for a new trial. WASHINGTON (AP) — A man convicted of killing Washington intern Chandra Levy is expected to get a new trial after government attorneys withdrew their opposition to one.

On Friday, after more than a year of sporadic hearings and legal wrangling, government attorneys withdrew their opposition to a new trial for Ingmar Guandique in a four-page motion. They said they were preparing for a new trial.

Attorneys for Guandique had asked a judge to grant him a new trial because they said a key witness in the case, Guandique’s one-time cellmate, gave false or misleading testimony during his 2010 trial. Guandique’s attorneys said prosecutors knew or should have known the testimony was problematic and investigated further.

  1. Before a prosecutor uses a jailhouse snitch in a capital trial the prosecutor should have to take ten kicks to the crotch. If the testimony is worth it, they will do it.

  2. By the way, did anyone in the media ever apologize to Gary Condit for accusing him of killing Chandra Levy?

    Didn’t think so.

  3. Her father did. But no, not the media.
