Rep. Joseph Cao (R-LA) — the only Republican in either the House or the Senate to support health care reform last year — voted against the Senate bill yesterday.
In an interview with the Times-Picayune, Cao explained that he’s “pretty much a tormented soul.” While he said he knew reform would benefit his constituents, he maintained he could not support the bill’s abortion provisions.
“For me abortion is such a moral evil, at a par with slavery, that I cannot in good conscience support a bill that seeks to expand it,” the Louisiana Republican said.
