Awais Younis, the 26-year-old Virginia man who federal authorities say threatened to set off bombs on the D.C. Metro system, sent threatening messages to a female acquaintance of his who was living in the New Orleans area at the time. The woman informed the FBI of the threats, and an agent reportedly took photos of the messages on what appears to be an iPhone.

Younis also goes by the names Sundullah “Sunny” Ghilzai and Mohhanme Khan and was arrested on Dec. 7. Federal authorities said he described how to build a pipe bomb and allegedly even detailed how he would place bombs on the third and fifth cars of Metro trains since those trains had the highest number of commuters on them.

A federal judge ruled last week “that there is a serious risk that defendant will flee or endanger the safety of other persons or the community” and “that there is no condition or combination of conditions that would reasonably assure the appearance of defendant as required or reasonably assure the safety of other persons or the community.” He’s being held in federal custody.

His Facebook profile, seen here, has been deleted. But copies of the messages he allegedly sent, seen below, were included in a recent filing by the Justice Department.
