CNN host Wolf Blitzer grilled Democratic presidential candidate Lincoln Chafee in an interview Wednesday over his low polling numbers — and asked the former Rhode Island governor: “At what point will you drop out?”
Chafee kept a smile on his face during most of the interview.
Blitzer started the interview by asking Chafee if he was pleased with his performance at the CNN debate Tuesday night.
Chafee responded that he wished he had more time to speak.
Then Blitzer got tough.
“And in the polls,” the host said, “you are closer to 0 percent than 1 percent.”
Chafee said that it was an example of “the establishment” not wanting to hear an anti-war voice and spreading his message.
Blitzer asked him how money he raised for his campaign.
“I’m not raising much money,” Chafee said, later saying he had raised $30,000. “I do have a budget, and I’m living within it.”
“You were elected governor of your home state, why bother right now if you have limited money, and limited support, and why keep going?” Blitzer asked.
“Well, the main motivator is what I care about is happening in the Middle East and across the world with the wars. And that’s the motivator for running,” Chafee said.
Blitzer continued to ask him about his campaign’s strategies, asking him if there were other ways to get his “voice heard.” He also displayed publications’ headlines that criticized Chafee’s performance at the debate.
“So at what point will you drop out?” Blitzer asked.
“I am in it as far as I can continue to raise these issues,” Chafee said. “They’re important, and I feel strongly about it.”
Now that he’s played his part in Hannity’s little kabuki theater, what’s left?
When Jeb Bush does.
Ah, we have viable candidates that have the message Mr. Chaffee. Thanks but your resume is not needed or special on our side of the aisle.
Stick it to the man, Chaffee!
We give up Gov. Chafee, the US does need the metric system. Now go home.
