Larry Wilmore got into the business of making attack ads on Wednesday night, after he heard presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R)’s attempt a foray into comedy.
After applauding Caitlyn Jenner and her debut in the pages of Vanity Fair, Wilmore turned to the words of Huckabee about his stance toward transgender people.
“I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE,” Huckabee said in a video that surfaced this week. “I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, ‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today.'”
(Huckabee’s remark was delivered in February and was not referencing Jenner but the acceptance of transgender people in general.)
Wilmore forced a laugh at the gag.
“What was his book again?” the host asked. “Oh yeah, ‘God, Guns, Grits and Gravy’ and Go Fuck Yourself.”
Wilmore proceeded to roll a mock up of an attack ad against Huckabee, playing off a snippet of the ex-governor’s remarks (“I think I’d rather shower with the girls.”)
“Mike Huckabee likes to shower,” the ad said in dark tones, “but he’s anything but clean.”
Wilmore made his own poorly-received jokes about Jenner’s sexuality earlier this year:
“Oh, hmm, haven’t checked in on Larry Wilmore’s show in a while, I wonder what he’s up—oh, uh, actually, nevermind.” pic.twitter.com/qqcuaabaDM

UFO penile balloon boy…
~ Yawn!~ Michaela Fuckamee’ was just jealous. It happens.:
In all seriousness, I winced a few times during Wilmore’s jokes regarding Ms Jenner, but he was spot on regarding Huckabee sounding like a creepy perv.
This was in the NYT yesterday. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/03/opinion/the-price-of-jenners-heroism.html?ref=opinion
I was taken back by the hero word. My opinion has always been that this transition has always been a Kardashian clan revenue enhancing plan. Undoubtedly he will have his own show on his Caitlyn experience. The whole clan will be making appearances. After reading the comments I was relieved that my opinion was shared by many.
On another note, I went to the local small town barbershop in Little Falls yesterday. At 64, I was the youngest customer waiting. There were 4 waiting ahead of me plus the two in the chairs. The Jenner topic topic came up after Adrian Peterson, the Vikings, and the Twins were hashed over. There was lot of smirking and “what is this world coming to” comments. On the brighter side, they talked about the wall to wall media coverage and the most senior barber commented on Fox News. He said something like watching too much of Fox " will rot your brain" Surprisingly, all the customers basically agreed with him. So, there is hope when that comment was agreed to in a small town barbershop with all customers being over 64 and older.
Edit:
Artemisia, Jenner did not and does not plan on having any surgery. He plans on staying a biological male. He likes women and is not attracted to men. If he had the gender changing surgery or said it was something he would think about, I would not be as skeptical. I believe he will ride the Caitlyn show and then decide when the show’s ratings fall off, that he will revert to being a man. Voila, another show. In the end, I’m afraid Jenner will do more harm and bring more ridicule to serious transgender people.
While I’m glad that they went after FOX News, just to point out that no one does this kind of transformation unless it is necessary. It has been pointed out that Jenner has struggled with being trans for a long time and even started to transition a couple of decades ago, but then backed out.
A while back, someone decided to do an experiment. She “went undercover” as a man- living her whole life as a man- for one year. By the time she completed the experiment, she was an emotional and psychological wreck because of how much damage being wrongfully gendered and treated as the wrong gender can do to a person. One does not transition just on a whim. There is a LOT behind it.
This isn’t about revenue streams or the Kardashians even though Jenner is going to get a lot of money and exposure over the whole thing. While I have my own reservations regarding Jenner’s transition including how it takes away from those of us who have had to transition under less ideal circumstances, it is still a very brave thing to do.
And while your opinion may be shared by many people- it’s flat out wrong and incredibly hurtful to those of us who endure this process without the kind of financial padding that Jenner has.
