Freshman Rep. Vance McAllister (R-LA) issued a statement Monday explaining his decision not to seek re-election. He said he was “truly sorry” for his actions, and that he had reconciled with his wife and children. Earlier this month, a Louisiana newspaper published video of McAllister kissing a female staff member in his Monroe, La. district office

Here’s McAllister’s full statement:

The past few weeks have been a trying time for my family. As I’ve said before, there’s no doubt I’ve made a mistake. I’ve failed those I care most about and let down the people who elected me to represent them. I take full responsibility for this personal failure and I’m truly sorry for what I’ve done. I have taken this time to reconcile with my wife and kids and I’m forever grateful for their support and forgiveness. The people of the Fifth District of Louisiana need and deserve a voice in Washington. Today, I am announcing that I will not seek re-election, but I will continue to be that voice and will uphold the office to which I was elected to serve for the remainder of my term.

  1. Please God, don’t put America through one of those horrific dog and pony press conference with the deer-in-the-headlights wife standing by her man. Argh!

  2. Still no acknowledgment of the other marriage that he jeopardized. Apparently he didn’t care for either of those people as much as the picture might suggest.

  3. Yeah. Just sayin’ you are sorry makes it all good with the missus. Hmmmhmmm. Bud, I have been married a long time and I have learned that wrongs done to your mate tend to resurface at inopportune times if you have inadequately paid your penalty. In other words saying you are sorry might work for low information followers but think again if you think it works for your mate.
