Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) expressed an openness on the issue of same-sex marriage on Wednesday, saying a person’s sexual orientation doesn’t matter to him.
Speaking at a high school in his Pennsylvania district, Kelly was asked by a student for his thoughts the issue and the tea party congressman said it was the first time anyone in the district had asked him about gay nuptials. According to a report in The Sharon Herald, Kelly expressed support for marriage being limited to one man and one woman but signaled that he doesn’t have qualms with an opposing view.
“I don’t care about a person’s sexual orientation,’’ Kelly said.
When TPM reached out to Kelly’s office for clarification on his position, a spokesman said he was unable to address the congressman’s remarks immediately.
