Romney campaign adviser and former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu told reporters in New Hampshire Monday that the Romney campaign is looking at about 20 potential VP picks, reports CNN. “I know that the bowl has about 19 or 20 little folded pieces of paper in it, and they keep shaking the bowl,” Sununu said.

Sununu also downplayed the idea Romney’s event with New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte Monday is a try-out for her.

He’s in a battleground state with a very important elected senator from a battleground state,” Sununu said. “When he goes to Ohio he’s got [Sen. Rob] Portman on the stage, and [Gov. John] Kasich on the stage. When he goes to Virginia it’s [Gov. Bob] McDonnell. When you go to the battleground states you get as much of the powerhouses as you can on the stage.

Sununu said that Ayotte was a strong candidate but cited as her weakness the fact that she’s from New Hampshire. He feels having both candidates on the ticket be from the same region would be a drawback for the campaign.
