Only Stephen Colbert could make the breaking news of a historic election night about him, ending Tuesday night’s episode with a fireside chat marking his last election special.
“I’d like to take a brief moment before we go to say, thank you,” the host of “The Colbert Report” said. “And also — thank me.”
Colbert reminisced on his near-decade’s worth of satirical election coverage, beginning with — as he remembered it — “The Daily Show with Jon Daily” and on through to his own show.
“So, that’s it for the ‘Report,'” he said. “I’ll simply end by saying it has been a pleasure and a privilege to be welcomed into your homes this last nine years.”
“So to you and yours, I say a fond — what’s that?” he said, looking off camera, “I have another month and a half of shows?”
He apologized for the drama and said he’d see everyone the following night.

Goodbye Stephen…in truth, I have to admit that it’s nice to not have to report on election nights any more, myself. I actually played one of my video games most of the night.
(I use to run a newsblog…in truth, I haven’t really been paying much attention to the news other than TPM and the local stuff lately due to sheer exhaustion.)
