Stephen Colbert could hardly contain his excitement at the GOP’s midterm victory on Wednesday’s “The Colbert Report.”
“As happy as I am that America is headed in the right direction, I’m not gonna spike the metaphorical football,” he said.
“Or even the literal football I had made with Obama’s face on it,” he said, producing the ball from under his desk.
But before long, the temptation was too great. Balloons dropped from the ceiling, dance music pumped and an elephant mascot came onstage to dance with Colbert as he went ahead and spiked the football.
Later in the show, Colbert began to tuck into what he said was a “roasted donkey leg,” hoping it would not disturb guest Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).
