The Daily Caller flags an interesting tidbit from a book by one of Romney’s presidential campaign advisors. According to an excerpt, the Romney camp was upset when allegations of sexual harassment began to sink Herman Cain’s surprisingly successful campaign. “We didn’t want [opposition research] on him coming out. We wanted him to stay where he is. He keeps Perry down.”

Of course, Romney’s fears have shifted as Perry has underperformed while Newt Gingrich has shot up in the polls. But the sentiment probably remains the same; if Cain was still polling well, Gingrich would likely be lower in the polls.
