The Washington Post filed a petition to the United Nations on Wednesday to find that Iran has violated the rights of imprisoned journalist Jason Rezaian.
Rezaian has been imprisoned for one year as of Wednesday, which is the longest for a Western journalist in Iran since the 1979 revolution, according to the Washington Post. He is 39.
“The arrest, interrogation, detention, trial and ongoing imprisonment of Jason Rezaian comprise extraordinary violations of his most fundamental basic rights,” the petition read.
Rezaian was held for about five months before being charged with espionage and other crimes. A trial began in May 2015.

Good. Jason Rezaian and his wife were on a recent episode of Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain (highly recommended). I wonder if that Iranian/American pop cultural cross over had anything to do with his arrest?
I’m sure this is Obama’s fault, but I just can’t quite work out how.
Just yesterday:
Obama demanding the release of Americans held by the Iranians is PROOF that he doesn’t care about Americans.
He’s content, doncha know.
