Ron Paul’s campaign has taking a beating for racist material printed under Paul’s name in the 1980s and 1990s. The campaign has disavowed the offensive material but done little else. Now, a pro-Paul super PAC, Revolution PAC, has created a video to prove that Ron Paul is not a racist. The proof? The story of a black man who Ron Paul helped.
The video features a black man whose wife was being ignored at a Texas hospital in the 1970s, and the staff was unresponsive the man’s pleas for help. Finally, Ron Paul entered, treated the man’s wife (who was white), delivering a stillborn baby. Paul told the man he would handle the bill and the man was never charged for the visit. The man says of Paul:
He was a doctor of medicine and that’s what he was doing was practicing medicine. And it didn’t matter who and what and why. He was doing it because he think of one human being just as much as another. He’s just an honest man. And that’s something we need in this day and time.
The man hints that people are trying to take down Paul because of his honesty. The ad ends by asking for donations to get the ad up on TV.
Paul’s campaign told New York magazine he didn’t remember the specific incident. His campaign is legally prohibited from coordinating with super PACs.
