Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) could have his hands full against the immigration hard-liner who’s challenging him next year, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Friday.
The poll found Hickenlooper leading former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) by only a point, 46 percent to 45 percent. Quinnipiac’s poll in June also showed the Democrat up by only a point.
Quinnipiac’s poll also found that majorities of Colorado voters disapprove of Hickenlooper on gun policy and believe the gun measures he signed into law earlier this year go too far.
His approval rating overall stood at 48 percent overall in the poll, above water but down from where he stood a year ago when many outlets showed him hovering around 60 percent.
Tancredo, the border hawk and former long-shot presidential candidate, announced in May that he will challenge Hickenlooper.
