Photos of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) wearing what appears to be a Rolex watch and driving in a donor’s Ferrari were added Friday to the evidence file in his federal corruption case.
McDonnell donor Jonnie Williams, the star witness for the prosecution, testified Thursday that he received a photo of McDonnell wearing a watch via text message in response to a message he sent the ex-governor in late 2012, according to The Washington Post.
Williams also said in testimony that he “knew it was wrong” to purchase a pricy Rolex watch for McDonnell in 2011 at the behest of his wife, Maureen McDonnell. The ex-governor has previously said that the watch was a Christmas gift from his wife and that he was not aware Williams had purchased it, according to the Post, although the photo could shed doubt on that claim.
