Syrian rebel forces have reportedly launched a full-fledged assault on Damascus, according to the BBC. The assault, dubbed Operation Damascus Volcano, is the latest intensification of the country’s civil war, and the military has reportedly deployed tanks and helicopters in response.
Meanwhile, former Syrian ambassador to Iraq Nawaf al-Fares, who recently defected, has told reporters that al-Qaeda colluded with the Assad regime in a spate of recent bomb attacks. Al-Fares added that the regime “will not hesitate to use chemical weapons.”
