House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was visibly shocked when she was asked about Sen. Barbara Boxer’s (D-CA) decision to not seek re-election.
News of Boxer’s decision broke as Pelosi was delivering a weekly press briefing. Pelsoi was asked right at the end and paused for a few moments, clearly taken by surprise.
Pelosi said Boxer called to talk to the top House Democrat personally but Pelosi didn’t think it would be about re-election plans.
“She called, she wanted to talk to me personally. I thought she wanted to have dinner tonight or something,” Pelosi joked.
Pelosi added that Boxer’s “leaving will be a great loss to the United States, the people of California and, the country.”
“It’s a great loss,” Pelosi said.

Feinstein’s time is limited too given age. There is a time to move on but this can be a big deal. It is far from impossible that a Republican can get one of the two seats.
Boxer and Feinstein have done a great job for California and this Country. They can’t live forever and they do deserve to enjoy what life remains under their own terms.
It’s actually quite a long shot for GOP’er to win a statewide election in Cali.
Watch the John Birchers (Fred C. Koch twins) try and machine someone like Kash and Carry or some red neck Hispanic like Maldonado because ‘Spanish’ into her spot and expect clowns like Villaraigossa (needs a job after slobbering charter schools and non effective governance all over Los Angles) to try and fill the vacuum.
What will happen is anyone’s guess but, (despite the cheer leading) there is no way anyone from the GOP will make the grade and be able to beat the eventual Democrat nominee, simply out of the realm of reason. Ask Meg or Carley.
Wrong, if you lived here (?) you would know that. The GOP will try and run the Evangelical mayor of Fresno though, that should bring out the OC and SD church heads.
