The U.S. economy grew by 280,000 jobs in May, while the unemployment rate rose slightly to 5.5 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday.

  4. Unemployment can go up a bit in a good economy because more people enter the work force looking for a job. If those people aren’t looking for a job, they don’t factor into the unemployment number. If they do, then they have an impact.
