Todd Akin’s infamous “legitimate rape” comment from last year’s Missouri Senate race will be reprised in the plot of an upcoming episode of the popular NBC television show Law & Order Special Victims Unit.
A promo for the show features what appears to be a U.S. congressman paraphrasing Akin: “It’s nearly impossible for a victim of legitimate rape to become pregnant,” he says.
“Ripped from the headlines, words that set off a national controversy,” the promo teases.
The episode even caught Akin’s opponent, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), by surprise.
