On Thursday’s edition of “The Nightly Show,” host Larry Wilmore posed the question: “Is boxing back?”
He took a shot at NBC in the process, just as recent reports revealed the network has been dealing with chaos in its news division.
“NBC is making an effort to rejuvenate a sport that’s kind of gotten choked out by MMA,” he said, making note of the network’s new efforts to promote boxing.
“I mean, over the years, boxing has suffered from corruption at the top, lack of big stars, apathy from fans—actually, it’s a lot like NBC when you think about it,” he added.
Overall, he said, the purses are shrinking along with the audience — as well as the brains of the talent. A recent study showed that boxers exposed to more fighting had slower brain processing speeds and actually saw parts of their grey matter shrink.

Two excellent points.
Larry seems like his head and heart are in the right place, but his show just doesn’t have the same punch as Colbert or Stewart. Which, unfortunately for Mr. Wilmore (and anyone else trying to fill their shoes later this year), are the benchmarks he’s up against.
Larry needs more time to hit his stride. He’s getting there!
If interesting with all the talk about football and brain injury that boxing doesn’t seem to be mentioned along with it.
I like Larry’s show and the direction of his humor. Mr. C’s a hard act to follow…I mean I’m still groovin’ to Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, particularly the genius Fenton Quest/Race Bannon custody battle of Mr. C’s wanton youth…or, would that be won-ton youth?
