Kickstarter, the website that’s become virtually synonymous with the very trend of “crowdfunding” itself, on Monday announced from its official Twitter account that another project, the website’s 13th, had been funded in excess of $1 million. Not only that, but “Project Eternity,” a new computer game from Obsidian Entertainment, became the second project to reach the $1 million mark in less than 24 hours.

Kickstarter’s official stats page only lists 11 projects past the $1 million mark, but importantly, 6 of them are all in the “games” category, proving that Kickstarter’s recent declaration that 2012 is the “Year of the Game” on the website is spot on. Kickstarter said in early 2012 that it was on track to surpass the National Endowment for the Arts in total fundraising dollars provided to art projects, and it appears to have already done that and more, raising in excess of $173 million in 2012 as of August 31, over Kickstarter’s estimated $150 million for 2012 and over the $146 million budget for the NEA in 2012.
