A Justice Department spokeswoman told TPM that DOJ had no immediate comment on the outcome on the John Edwards trial or whether they would pursue a retrial against the former Democratic presidential candidate. A retrial is widely considered unlikely, and two federal sources told NPR’s Carrie Johnson that a retrial wouldn’t take place.
