Jezebel editor-in-chief Jessica Coen said Wednesday that Gawker Media has come up with a real fix for the site’s “rape gif problem.”

Gawker planned to implement a pending comments system to address the spate of violent images and rape gifs anonymously posted on Jezebel articles, Coen said in a post on the site. That would require users to choose to see comments from non-approved accounts, forewarning readers that they are viewing those comments at their own risk.

Jezebel staff had posted a statement Monday that faulted its parent company for not addressing the porn and gore spamming the site’s comments section. Gawker then temporarily disabled image uploading on its comment platform Tuesday, and Coen thanked management for “working around the clock” to come up this new long-term solution.

“This ordeal has been unpleasant, but we’re lucky to work at a company where raising hell gets you results instead of getting you canned,” Coen wrote.
