A spokeswoman for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) sidestepped the dustup surrounding former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s accusation that President Obama doesn’t “love America,” telling TPM on Friday that Bush doesn’t question the President’s “motives.”
TPM reached out to representatives for 10 of the people thought to be considering a shot at the 2016 Republican presidential nomination after Giuliani’s comments emerged as the latest flash point between GOP contenders.
“Governor Bush doesn’t question President Obama’s motives. He does question President Obama’s disastrous policies,” Bush spokeswoman Kristy Campbell wrote to TPM in an email on Friday.
Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) office declined to comment on the subject to TPM earlier Friday. Spokespeople for Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Dr. Ben Carson offered no comment.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) on Thursday went as far as to say it’s “immaterial” whether Obama loves America at this point.
“The gist of what Mayor Giuliani said – that the President has shown himself to be completely unable to speak the truth about the nature of the threats from these ISIS terrorists- is true,” Jindal said. “If you are looking for someone to condemn the Mayor, look elsewhere.”
