After the House Science Committee’s Twitter account on Thursday promoted a Breitbart News article claiming that global temperatures have dropped since the middle of this year, Democrats on the committee blasted Republicans for promoting the misleading story.
.@BreitbartNews: Global Temperatures Plunge. Icy Silence from Climate Alarmists https://t.co/uLUPW4o93V
— Sci,Space,&Tech Cmte (@HouseScience) December 1, 2016
The article in question was written by climate change-denier James Delingpole, who claimed that El Niño drove temperatures up around the world only to have La Niña drive temperatures back down again. He cited another climate denier, David Rose, and argued that the past three years will be known as the “final death rattle of the global warming scare.”
Democrats on the House Science Committe, including ranking member Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), quickly condemned committee Republicans’ staff for promoting the Breitbart piece and blasted it as “fake news.”

Hmmm, evidently when the House #Science Committee becomes the House Technology & Space Committee..brought to you by Trump & @HouseGOP. 1/2 https://t.co/rtzZQUeSRE

So, @NASAGoddard or Breitbart? The science is clear – these aren’t the records we want to be breaking. #ClimateChange is a real threat. /2 https://t.co/rtzZQUeSRE

It’s the House SCIENCE Committee, not the climate change denial committee. Bring back the science! https://t.co/W9SHzdBmEb

This is misleading, irresponsible, and false. https://t.co/50h8dK0A3K

This isn’t factual, it’s embarrassing, and Breitbart is not a credible news source. We need to bring *science* back to the Science Committee https://t.co/oZ6GfFAlUI

A quick reminder that @HouseScience GOP is using @BreitbartNews to back up climate denial theory, rather than NASA, NOAA, & actual science. https://t.co/iR0BY6grrc

If Republicans on the House Science Committee are getting their science news from Breitbart, that would explain a great deal. https://t.co/OttEHO7OGs

The science committee should focus on science instead of promoting a partisan agenda. #backtoscience https://t.co/MvtOC6g6QS
