Hospitals on Thursday opened up a new front in their war on the House GOP’s payroll tax cut package, releasing a new study that said the bill’s hospital payment cuts under Medicare would kill 83,000 jobs.
“Cuts in funding for hospital care will threaten jobs at a time when our nation needs to be creating jobs, not eliminating them,” said Rich Umbdenstock, the president of the American Hospital Association, in a statement. “H.R. 3630 would lead to further job loss in hospitals, an ill-advised move in these tough economic times.”
The study was conducted by the economic consulting firm Tripp Umbach.
