Heritage Action celebrated the resignation of House Speaker John Boehner in a statement released Friday morning. The conservative lobbying group’s chief executive, Michael A. Needham, wrote that Boehner “has stood in the way” of “conservative policy solutions.”

The full statement was posted to the group’s website.

“Americans deserve a Congress that fights for opportunity for all and favoritism to none. Too often, Speaker Boehner has stood in the way. Today’s announcement is a sign that the voice of the American people is breaking through in Washington. Now is the time for a principled, conservative leader to emerge. Heritage Action will continue fighting for conservative policy solutions and we look forward to working with the new leadership team.”

Heritage Action is the lobbying arm of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. The group has long criticized Boehner for his efforts to pass comprehensive immigration reform and bipartisan budget legislation.
