Although George W. Bush has largely shied away from appearing with his brother on the campaign trail, the former president on Thursday sent a fundraising email on behalf of Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign.

“My brother will be a tremendous President. He is a proven leader with an optimistic outlook and a clear, conservative agenda for America’s future,” George W. Bush wrote in the email. “He’s got a tough road ahead — take it from someone who’s been there. With his strengths and your support, he will succeed.”

Jeb has tried to downplay his relationship with his brother and connections to Washington, but also struggled to criticize his brother’s actions in office, specifically George W. Bush’s decision to invade Iraq.

But he seems willing to take his brother off the bench for fundraising. George W. Bush, along with George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush, will appear at a donor event for Jeb in October.
