Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who was wounded in a deadly mass shooting at an event in her Arizona district two years ago, is expected to meet privately on Friday with the families of victims of last month’s massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., according to multiple reports.

A spokesman for Connecticut Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman told the Associated Press that the meeting is “planned but not confirmed” for Friday afternoon. NBCConnecticut.com reported that the meeting will take place at a Newtown residence and will not be open to the public. Giffords may make a second visit appearance in Newtown, the spokesman said. Her husband, astornaut Mark Kelly, will accompany her to the private meeting.

Giffords’ visit to Newtown comes on the heels of a Wednesday meeting with one of the country’s most outspoken gun control advocates, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg posted a photo of the meeting on his Twitter account and Giffords did the same on her official Facebook page.

“Nice to visit with Mayor Bloomberg while we are in NYC,” she wrote on her Facebook wall. “His ‘bullpen’ office is very efficient!”
