More than 80 million people watched the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton on Monday night, making it the most watched debate in history.

According to Nielsen research cited in a CNN report, an average of 80.9 million viewers watched the debate across 12 of the channels carrying it live.

Nielsen research does not take into account viewers watching outside of their homes, and the total viewer count does not incorporate ratings for PBS or C-SPAN.

In addition, more than 2.5 million viewers watched the debate via live streams on YouTube, according to the CNN report.
