A convicted felon faces a manslaughter charge in the accidental shooting of his baby daughter.

WITN reported that the child was shot around 9 p.m. Wednesday night. The father, 28-year-old Allen Ormond, was holding a rifle on his couch when it accidentally went off and shot the baby in the chest, according to Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith.

Deputies charged Ormond with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to WNCT.

A second man, Kevin Elkins, was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon as well as possession of stolen property. Deputies told WNCT that Elkins brought the power rifle to the house that day. Convicted felons legally barred from owning a firearm.
