EMILY’s List, the PAC dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women, on Tuesday will endorse former New Jersey state Senate Majority Leader Barbara Buono, the Democratic challenger to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in his 2013 re-election bid.
The group will now actively solicit donations from its 2 million members on Buono’s behalf. Communications Director Jess McIntosh told TPM Buono’s campaign would be a “priority” for the organization this year.
“It’s about time New Jersey has its first pro-choice Democratic woman governor,” Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List, said in an email that will go out later today. “[A]nd as a progressive champion with an impressive track record of fighting for women and families, Barbara Buono is the perfect candidate to finally break that glass ceiling.”
The endorsement comes a day after the group put Christie “On Notice,” attacking his record and raising money to defeat him.
