In Thursday’s GOP debate, Donald Trump admitted that he revived the question of whether Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) Canadian birth disqualifies him from the presidency — a question he had dismissed a few months ago — because Cruz “is doing a little bit better.”

At first Donald Trump denied Cruz’s claims that the attack was a response to the senator’s rise in the polls.

“As you know, Ted, in the last three polls I’m beating you. So you shouldn’t misrepresent how well you’re doing with the polls,” Trump said. “You don’t have to say that. … That is misrepresentation. Number one. Number two. This isn’t me saying it. I don’t care.”

Trump said he would win “win fair and square,” but was concerned Democrats would sue if Trump chose Cruz as his vice presidential candidate.

“If for some reason, Neil, he beats rest of the field, I already know the Democrats are going to be bringing a suit,” Trump said, suggesting that Cruz get a “declaratory judgment” now and “let the courts decide.”

Cavuto pushed Trump again as to why he decided to raise the concern now.

“Because now he is doing a little bit better. No, I didn’t care if he — no, it is true,” Trump said. “He never had a chance. Now he is doing better.”
