CNN’s Don Lemon continued a streak of on-air verbal slip-ups Sunday night before the Academy Awards.
Lemon was interviewing “Saturday Night Live” alum Andy Samberg and his faux-rap group The Lonely Island on the red carpet when he asked how the trio came up with one of its best-known shorts from the sketch comedy show.
“How do you come up, because you three were hired by ‘SNL,’ how do you come up with stuff like ‘Dick in a Box?'” Lemon asked.
Samberg studiously avoided saying the song’s full title in his response.
“You get locked in a room and get told there’s a video that has to air in 48 hours and you go ahhhh, what about it in a box!” he said. “And you go yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that’s good!”
Lemon repeated the song title a few minutes later when he tossed to an unamused Michaela Pereira.
“There you go, The Lonely Island. These guys are nuts, I love all those sketches that they do, Michaela, on ‘SNL,'” he said. “Those are the guys responsible for ‘Dick in a Box’ and all that stuff.”
“Oh — you said it,” Pereira said. “My mom’s watching, Don Lemon!”
Three days earlier, Lemon said “bullshit” on air while reading a quote from Fox News host Bill O’Reilly and immediately apologized.
