The National Republican Congressional Committee, the House GOP’s campaign arm, is running an ad praising Rep. Bob Dold (R-IL) for standing up to Donald Trump.
Dold, who represents Illinois’ 10th Congressional District, is one of the most endangered incumbent House Republicans of the election cycle, according to the National Review’s report on the ad.
“Dold is an independent voice who stood up to Donald Trump months ago,” the narrator in the ad says, after calling the congressman “one of the most bi-partisan members of Congress.”
The ad then cuts to Dold saying on CNN: “I think Donald Trump has disqualified himself.”
The ad has been on air since earlier this week, but it does not appear on the NRCC’s website and the NRCC declined to comment on it, according to the National Review.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Trump has no more large-dollar fundraising events scheduled for the remainder of the campaign. While the Republican presidential candidate will continue to raise money online, his campaign said, his forgoing of high-dollar fundraisers will cut off a main source of funding for the Republican National Committee that could be used to establish a nation-wide ground game that would in turn help Republicans down-ballot.
